Our aim is to promote the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potentials, as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities.

The method of achieving the aim of scouting is by providing an enjoyable and attractive scheme of progressive training, based on the Scout Promise and Law and guided by adult Leadership.

The Group comprises of  one Cub Pack, one Scout Troop, and we are associated with the District Explorer Unit. The Group belongs to the Conwy District which covers the area from Abergele to Conwy.


The Cub Pack meet on Thursday evenings. Young people join Cubs when they are 8 years old and move up to Scouts when they are between 10½ and 11 years old.

There are a number of awards and proficiency badges for the Cubs to achieve. The Cubs usually take part in at least one camp a year and a number of Section, Group and District activities which include competitions, hill walking, canoeing and church parades.


The Scout Troop meet on Monday evenings. Young people join Scouts at 10½ to 11 and leave between the ages of 13.5 and 14.5 years old.  Scouts work for a number of challenges and proficiency badges with the ultimate achievement being the Chief Scouts Gold Award. There are a number of camps throughout the year and the opportunity to try numerous activities such as canoeing, sailing, cycling,  climbing,  fishing, cooking,  skiing and hiking.


All the leaders put in a lot of effort to run their section.  There is preparation for weekly meetings, activities to organise and attend at weekends and Group leader and review meetings to attend. The leaders are all volunteers and are NOT PAID for the time they give. They are using their spare time to provide activities and opportunities for members of the Group and will often need help from parents.

Scout Group Management

The Scout Group is led by a Group Scout Leader with the support of the Group Executive Committee. This committee consists of the Group Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer and parent representatives. The Committee is responsible for the maintenance of the HQ, Group finance, public relations and fund raising.

Financing The Group

The Group is financed in two ways: by subs and fundraising. Each member is asked to pay membership fees of £80.00 per year plus a £10.00 joining fee to cover badges and neckerchief) and this is collected once per year or in four payments of £20.00. £70.00 if paid on time and £60.00 for second child.   Please inform our treasurer about how you intend to pay  ( Treasurer Geoff Powell 01492 532349  or email

We run a gift aid scheme which allows the Group as a charity to recover the tax paid by the members’ parents. All parents need to do is sign the form obtainable from any leader and we recover approx £20.00 per member per year. Please do not pay subs to the leaders as this can take time to filter through to our treasurer.

Scout Group Headquarters

The Group Headquarters is available for parents and leaders to use for any private functions such as children’s parties etc.

The Headquarters is also available to other Scout and Guide Groups who might be visiting the area.


Each Section has its own uniform.  for Cubs a green sweat shirt, Scouts a teal green shirt. All sections wear the Group scarf, which is royal blue with a gold border.

Activity trousers are also available, but school trousers are quite acceptable. The uniform may be purchased from a number of locations including the Llandudno Scout Shop, which is based at the Llandudno Scout HQ behind the lifeboat station. When a young person joins a section we advise that the uniform is only purchased when they are ready to make their promise (usually after 2 to 3 weeks). When a member moves from one section to another they may wear their old uniform until they acquires the new uniform.

Your section leader will provide the neckerchief , woggle and badges for the investiture ceremony which is covered in the cost of the £10.00 joining fee.  The investiture ceremony to which parents are invited should take place within 6 weeks from the date of the first meeting attended.
If a member fails to attend for four consecutive meeting without any reason given by the parent then it will be presumed that that child has left the Group and their place will be given to the next on the waiting list.


Our leaders use emails to communicate with parents however hard copies will be available for those who prefer.

CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) Forms

As we often ask parents to help on rotas and at camps and events we need to ensure that all our young people are kept safe and therefore Occasional Helpers will be asked to complete a DBS form.


We often take photographs at camp and other events to publicise our group. We assume that most parents are quite happy for these pictures to be used in Scout publicity, Please let your section leader know if you have any objections to photographs being taken and used.

Complaints Procedure

We hope your child enjoys their time with us but if you have any cause for concern please discuss it with your Section Leader or section Parent Representitive.  If this does not resolve the matter please contact the Group Scout Leader.  The Scout Association does have a complaints procedure, which can be viewed at

What you can do to Help

  • Become a leader, assistant, instructor or help at meetings – You don’t need special skills just enthusiasm and commitment. Training is provided. Why not visit a meeting to find out what is involved.

Become a parent representative – Put your views forward about how the Group should develop. There are only four executive committee meetings a year.

Help with section activities – There is always a need for help at activities such as providing transport, putting up tents, catering or making a few buns. Most sections run a parent rota for help at meetings.

Support your child – There are numerous activities and badges to be undertaken and your child will need your help to achieve.
